Discover Crystalvale:

A nature refuge and ecological and cultural haven

Corporate Carbon Group’s (CCG) Cape York property, Crystalvale, has been declared as a Nature Refuge by the Queensland Government’s Department of Environment, Science and Innovation (DESI) after funding from their Nature Conservation Assistance Program.

It joins Holroyd and Yarraden, two other Cape York properties under CCG’s care, as part of an expansive network of Nature Refuges. Together, these properties form a continuous ecological corridor spanning 500,000 hectares—a sanctuary for the region's unique ecology, and a protector of cultural heritage, all while balancing carbon and cattle activity.

Cultural heritage survey at Crystalvale Nature Refuge

Corporate Carbon’s Group Technical Officer, Dr. Kate Dodds, recently spent a week on-country with the land’s traditional owners conducting a cultural heritage survey. This was the first time some of the traditional owners had been on their country, while others had not been on-country for 40 years. For Elder Freddie Shortjoe, the experience felt like coming home. Check out what they were up to.
